Meditation has been a popular form of relaxation and spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental healing for centuries in some cultures and started to become popular in Western cultures in the 1960s. There are many ways to practice meditation, but one thing remains consistent throughout – the environment should be conducive to peace and relaxation. In many cases, candles and incense combined with relaxing styles of music or nature sounds are used in conjunction with comfortable furniture and décor that lends a relaxing feel and visual effect.
In addition:
- “Many studies have found a connection between odors and powerful memories.
- “Scientists believe that smell and memory are so closely linked because the anatomy of the brain allows olfactory signals get to the limbic system very quickly.
- “Experts say the memories associated with smells tend to be older and thought about less often, meaning the recollection is very vivid when it happens.”

The use of an aroma that creates a relaxed atmosphere and is consistent for all sessions of meditation aids the process, helps decrease the time to arrive at a meditative state, and allows that state to go deeper.
Here’s a suggested blend to use during meditation sessions.
Prepare this blend in a clean, sterilized, dry 5 ml. amber, dropper-top bottle:
- 21 drops frankincense
- 21 drops myrrh
- 14 drops lavender
- 14 drops vetiver
- 7 drops Roman chamomile
- 7 drops patchouli
You can, of course, use a 10 ml. bottle and double the number of drops for each oil or a 15 ml. bottle and triple the number of drops for each oil.
Use 7 or 8 drops in a diffuser that will run at least as long as your session.
It can also be prepared as a room spray for creating a peaceful feel in any room. To make the spray, add 32 drops of Meditation Blend to filtered water in an 8 oz. glass spray bottle.
