Everything Skin

by BB Curtis

Several close friends, relatives and I have been diagnosed with various types of skin issues.  Over time, as we’ve found less and less effectiveness in medical treatments and/or unwanted side effects, we’ve sought out other ways to manage these problems.  I’ve developed a mixture that has been found especially helpful in relieving itching, assisting in healing affected skin, and being effective in reducing or even staving off attacks due to many types of skin issues when used during early detection or on a regular basis for those who have tried it.  Always seek medical assistance and inform your medical practitioner of any procedures you would like to add to your treatment plan.

This is a salve base that can be used for many different essential oil blends:

  • 1/2 cup beeswax, shaved
  • 1/2 cup sweet almond oil

Always using only glass and/or metal containers, melt the beeswax in a double boiler, stirring often preferably using a wooden or bamboo utensil, and taking it off the heat as soon as it is melted.  Pour the melted wax into a measuring cup or other glass or metal container with a handle and pouring lip, add the carrier oil, mix well, and let stand for two to three minutes to cool.

Carefully add to the salve base:

  • 8 drops melaleuca oil
  • 8 drops lemon oil
  • 5 drops lavender oil
  • 4 drops Roman chamomile oil
  • 3 drops myrrh oil
  • 3 drops patchouli oil
  • 3 drops geranium oil
  • 3 drops rosemary oil
  • 3 drops grapefruit oil
  • 2 drops bergamot oil
  • Use glass or metal containers and stirring instruments.  Mix by gentle stirring.

Fill a glass jar (well-washed and steam disinfected) with the mixture.  You can apply this as needed to the affected area and the bottoms of the feet.  Label jar with contents and date made.  Please consult your medical practitioner.

As you can see, I’ve thrown a lot into this mixture so that it has the potential to work on more than one type of problem.  At my house, this is called Grandma’s Magical Goo.  Due to the properties of the oils included, we use it for burns, cuts, minor abrasions, diaper rash (a few years back), bug bites, bruises, pimples, skin allergy attacks (such as latex allergy), you name it.  If there’s skin involved, Grandma’s Magical Goo is the first line of attack and relief.  My grandkids are currently 11, 9, and 7, one boy and two girls.  They are active AND crazy.  I have a jar of this stuff in both bathrooms, the kitchen, my office, and my purse.  There are a couple of jars of it at my daughter’s house and with the daughter who has no children.  She’s married.  The husband gets boo-boos.  It also feels really good on chapped lips and helps prevent chapping if you can get little people to use it more regularly.
