Fungal infections of the toe and fingernails and others like athlete’s foot, jock itch, and dandruff are not just uncomfortable but can also be embarrassing. Many over-the-counter treatments and prescriptions, as have been mentioned in other articles here, may have limited effectiveness and can also have unwelcome side effects including, but not limited to, blisters, rashes, irritation, inflammation, numbness, and, in some cases, include liver damage. Here, instead, are some natural alternatives that can be applied topically after being cut with a carrier oil – coconut oil is preferred due to its antibiotic and anti-fungal effects, intensifying the effects of the essential oil – one drop of the recommended oil to 5 drops of carrier oil:
- Oregano Oil (one of the most potent anti-fungal oils)
- Cassia Oil (also antibacterial and antiviral)
- Coriander Oil (also an excellent anti-inflammatory)
- Lavender Oil (also helps calm irritation and itch)
- Cinnamon Oil (aids the healing process and antiseptic)
- Patchouli Oil (anti-inflammatory and antiseptic)
- Clove Oil (also disinfects)
- Rosemary Oil (includes antioxidant properties to speed healing)
- Thyme Oil (also an antiseptic)
- Lemon Oil (both antibacterial and antiseptic)
- Melaleuca Oil (also effective for microbial infections)
- Clary Sage Oil (helps calm irritation and has astringent qualities)
The mixture should be applied at least four times daily, directly to the affected area for skin and nail issues until the condition is completely healed. For dandruff, add 3 drops of the oil mixture to two tablespoons of leave-in conditioner. Spray this on the hair and comb through once in the morning and once in the evening until the condition clears.
For particularly resistant fungus infections, add together any three of these recommended oils, including at least one that reduces irritation such as lavender or clary sage, one drop each, cut with 15 drops of coconut oil.
