Dogs ARE Better Than People

Harrison Oafy Flauschigerhosen – My Sweet Boy

by BB Curtis

Some days bring to light small miracles and/or proof that I’ve been right all along. I’ve always liked animals more than people.

Have you ever been walking in the direction of something that, for some reason, is obviously the exact place you want to go, and some jackass in your way just stands there in your way? When you say, “Excuse me.” they act as if you are putting them out for having to take a 1/2 step aside so you can get past and say something stupid like, “How would I know where you’re going?” with an attitude. Doofus!

This morning, I went to the kitchen to refill my coffee cup. The dog was asleep on the floor in front of the coffee pot’s spot on the counter. I can reach over him even though he’s a big, ole lug. I stepped closer to him. He put his head up, looked at the cup in my hand, got up, walked about two feet away, looking at me happily, and sat down, watching me. I poured my coffee and turned to go back to my desk in the adjoining den where he was sitting. He started walking toward me. I said, “Thank you.” He nodded his head and got to his spot on the floor where the AC blows directly on him, right where he had been, and lay back down. I put my cup down on my desk and turned toward him, telling him what an amazing boy he is. He smiled and closed his eyes, going back to sleep. I told him he was a better person than most people, went back over to him, got down on my arthritic knees, and cuddled his head for a couple seconds. He gave me the gentlest, little lick on my neck as we snuggled. He’s fucking awesome. I am so lucky — and grateful!
